GFDD/Funglode Golf Classic to be Held This July

June 1, 2015

The 6th GFDD/Funglode Golf Tournament will be held on July 20, 2015 at the Trump National Doral- Golden Palm in Miami, Florida.

This event helps benefit GFDD/Fungode and its programs which support social, economic and democratic development in the Dominican Republic. It also serves as a networking opportunity for high-ranking officials, industry leaders, business executives, and celebrities. Previous tournaments have hosted leading individuals from the philanthropic field and prominent sports figures, along with others who have supported GFDD’s programs and projects. Mr. Juan Marichal, the first Dominican to be inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame, will carry on the tradition of being the first to tee off for the tournament. Since the first one in 2010, the golf tournament has remained a popular event.

The golf tournament will be held at the Trump National Doral- Golden Palm Course in Miami, FL. This new course offers a unique and challenging experience to golfers of all skill levels. The course follows a traditional Florida layout with contoured greens, strategic bunkers, and many water elements. The Gold’s heavily contoured greens, firm and fast, will require a smooth stroke and soft touch. The format used in the tournament will be a 2 Man Scramble using 25% of the HDCP with two categories: Class A (0 – 10 HDCP) and Class B (11 – 24 HDCP).

The objective of this event, organized by the Miami Public Relations and Marketing Agency 3AWorldwide, is to benefit the Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD), its projects and programs promoting social, economic and democratic development in the Dominican Republic. GFDD is a private, 501(c)3, US registered not for profit, non-partisan organization, dedicated to promoting collaboration between international institutions and the Dominican Republic, conducting research and analysis, providing educational and training programs and implementing development and exchange opportunities for Dominicans in the country and the diaspora, in areas critical to the advancement and modernization of the Dominican Republic. GFDD Executive Director Natasha Despotovic says that the tournament is a “GFDD tradition to share time with partners and friends and promote fundraising in order to continue implementing a variety of projects geared toward the development of the Dominican Republic and Latin America.”
